2024 Kerlan Award Winner

The Kerlan Award, presented annually by the University of Minnesota Libraries’ renowned Kerlan Collection of Children’s Literature, is given to a children’s book author or illustrator for exceptional attainment in the creation or support of children’s literature. This year's Kerlan Award goes to Lisa Yee, who since 2003 has published nearly two dozen books for young readers; these include the New York Times Bestseller The Misfits, the Newbery Honor title Maizy Chen’s Last Chance, the Bobby Ellis-Chan series, and the DC Super Hero Girls series; her groundbreaking YA novel Millicent Min, Girl Genius features one of the first Asian American protagonists in contemporary children’s literature. Yee is a frequent contributor to NPR’s Books We Love and divides her time between Los Angeles and Western Massachusetts.
