Faculty Research Showcase: Exploring History in the Riemenschneider Bach Institute

BW faculty Paul Cary, Christina Fuhrmann and Danielle Kuntz will discuss what the collections of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute (RBI) can teach us about Bach and the Bach Festival. The RBI's world - renowned collection of editions of the Well - Tempered Clavier helps us understand how attitudes to this piece and its performance changed over time. The RBI's extensive archives highlight the role that Selma Riemenschneider played in the Bach Festival and the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. Items from the RBI's collection will be on display.

In 1724, J.S. Bach premiered the incredible "St. John Passion." Our 1724/2024 program features BWV: Cleveland's Bach Choir performing music from this prolific year in Bach's life, including cantatas, as well as keyboard and orchestral suites. The program will also premiere a new work written for the occasion by BW Composer - in - Residence Dr. Clint Needham '04.
